CFR said the heatwave in the country has increased the chance of rail lines buckling.

Passenger trains are not to exceed 100 kilometers per hour, while freight trains will travel at a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour, CFR said in a statement.

It said speed limitation will trigger average schedule delays between 20 and 40 minutes.

Some 190 trains reported delays Wednesday, accounting for a total of 2,416 minutes of delayed arrivals or departures in the traffic schedule, CFR said.

It mentioned rail traffic was halted for two hours on the route linking southeastern localities Eforie Nord and Ecluza Agigea, Constanta county, due to track buckling.

Traffic was later resumed and it is now unfolding according to the regular schedule, the rail company said.

Temperatures in Constanta county exceeded 35 degrees Celsius Thursday afternoon, and meteorologists said the heat will continue Friday as well, when the temperatures might reach 38 degrees Celsius.
