Romanian Ctrl Electoral Office Says S Romania Commune Vote Valid

Romania’s Central Electoral Office rejected Friday requests to cancel elections in Iepuresti commune, Giurgiu county, southern Romania, spokesman Marian Muhulet said, adding the decision is final and irrevocable.

"Votes cast on June 1 remain valid,” Muhulet said.
 
Over 100 locals in Iepuresti are protesting for the second day in a row, contesting the result in the elections.
 
The current mayor, social democrat Gheorghe Paunescu won the elections Sunday with 749 votes, while the democrat liberal candidate Costin Ceausu received 738 votes. The Democratic Liberal Party claimed foul play was involved and asked for a re-vote.
 
The Central Electoral Office this week cancelled election results in Stefanesti and Vidra communes, near Bucharest.
