Hungarian Minority in Romania Wants Autonomy, Not Independence- Official
The statement made by Tokes comes in response to the statements made by senator Francesco Cossiga, Italy’s former president during 1985-1992, who said after the UN reunion in New York on the Kosovo issue that the independence of Serbian region of Kosovo mainly inhabited by ethnic Albanians might create a dangerous precedent.
"One should really be careful and cautious when it comes to proclaiming Kosovo’s independence unilaterally as this situation might have a chain-reaction effect in other regions mainly inhabited by ethnic minorities, and thus seed chaos in the European Union," said Cossiga.
During his speech, Cossiga gave the Hungarian minority in Transylvania as example, stressing they might ask for their own independence from Romania.
Tokes promptly reacted to Cossiga’s statements saying, "This is all wrong."
