Asked whether the ruling coalition made any decision to freeze pensions and wages during its ten-hour meeting, Geoana said he doesn’t think that would be a realistic solution.
“I understand certain concerns regarding macroeconomic stability, but there are resources to increase low wages and pensions and they must be used," Geoana said.
"The government will decide tomorrow (Thursday -e.n.), but from our (the social democrats’) point of view, freezing wages and pensions is not a solution and I think we’ve reached a reasonable way to allow raising these, but at a rate and with sums that allow them to remain sustainable,” Geoana added.
The social democrat leader also said ministers still have to sort out details Thursday morning and said there was also talk of measures to stimulate the economy and help keep jobs, measures that are to be finalized in the upcoming days.
