Romanian 1H Industrial Output +5.9% On Yr

The institute said the growth in the first six months of the year was driven by energy and manufacturing sectors, whose output grew 6.7% and 6.9% on the year respectively. Output in the mining sector was down 2.2% in the same period.

On the year in June, industrial output grew 4%, boosted by manufacturing sector, which grew 5.1%. Output in the mining and energy sectors dropped 3.1% and 2.3% respectively in the same period.

The country’s industrial output also dropped 1.5% on the month in June, on the backdrop of lower output in energy and manufacturing sectors.

Output in the energy and manufacturing sectors was down 1.9 % and 1.8% respectively on the month in June, while in the mining sector output rose 2.5% in the same period, the institute said.

Industrial output data for June are preliminary, the institute said.

In 2007, Romania’s industrial output grew 5.4% on the year led by manufacturing growth and is expected to grow 5.2% in 2008, according to official estimates.
