The intervention team prevented the oil expansion to Vartej river.
The first evaluation revealed that some 700-800 liters of oil leaked through the pipeline, the head-commissary of Arges Environment Watchdog Iustin Vasilescu said Wednesday.
Petrom should pay a fine between 50,000 and 100,000 lei (EUR1-RON 3.7418) for the pollution of Cotmenita stream as well as of lands and households in Babana village, Arges county. Petrom should also pay for rendering the area ecological.
At around GMT07:00, the cracked pipeline was temporary decommissioned.
Petrom is the largest corporation in Romania and the largest gas and oil producer in Southeastern Europe. In December 2004, Petrom was privatized and became a part of OMV AG (OMV.VI), which is the majority shareholder.
