MEDIAFAX also learned that the vice-president of the Energia Rovinari Union – which represents workers from the Rovinari Power Plant -, Manu Tomescu, has gone on hunger strike following negotiations with the company’s management on Monday.
The union leader is demanding wage raises and no sanctions for the employees who protested since Friday. He also requests that Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and Energy Minister Anton Anton travel to the CEO headquarters in Targu-Jiu, where his protest is taking place.
According to another union leader, Nicu Bunoaica, employees from Lupoaia and Rosiuta quarries are continuing the protests launched last week at the Jilt Nord and Jilt Sud quarries.
CEO manager Sorin Boza told MEDIAFAX on Tuesday that a new round of negotiations with union leaders is scheduled during the day.
More than 2,000 employees of the Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO) interrupted work on Monday as protests extended throughout all of the company’s quarries, with demonstrators demanding wage raises, vacation vouchers and a lower retirement age.
The movement started last week, after the company’s management proposed a new budget for the year which did not include wage raises or vacation vouchers for its approximately 13,000 employees.
