Romanian National Exams Postponed To May 7, Teacher Strike Suspended

Romanian education minister Ecaterina Andronescu said Monday at the end of talks with unionists in education that the national exams set for tomorrow have been rescheduled for May 7, while the dates for the other exams are unchanged, and the strike set by teachers for Tuesday has been suspended.

The dignitary said the salaries of teachers will not be affected and research projects and programs will continue as established.

Andronescu also said on May 6, at the proposition of union leaders in education, the documents discussed Monday will be signed.

Unionists in education will meet Wednesday to decide if they will continue protests and boycott the national exams.

Andronescu added the unionists announced they will continue protests if the agreement convened Monday is not honored.

At the same time, in the talks held Monday it was established that provisions from Government Emergency Ordinance 151/2008 on the salaries of teachers will be included in the single salary law for the public sector.
