Munteanu will be replacing Dorel Oros, who became general manager at Romsilva end-August this year.
"The current manager already talked to me and said he’ll resign after the holidays,” the minister said.
Sarbu added he plans to run a major check-up within Romsilva to see why the institution is no longer as profitable as it was during his previous term as agriculture minister.
He added he wants the government to issue an emergency decree expropriating degraded lands to have them forested. The minister also plans to create a guard unit to help wipe out illegal wood cutting across the country.
Romsilva estimates it’ll have a turnover of 1.06 billion lei (EUR1=RON3.9964) this year, similar to last year, and a gross profit of some RON80 million, about 5% higher compared with RON76 million in 2007.
