The USR municipal councilor said that the financing amounted to an “illegal state subsidy”, adding that the companies received over EUR600 million from public funds.
“We have filed today (Tuesday, ed.) a complaint with the European Commission regarding the illegal state subsidy granted for municipality companies by Gabriela Firea (…) The 22 municipality companies received more than EUR600 million, funds used for headquarters, salaries, vehicles and operation costs. In addition from these sums, the companies also received contracts in non-favorable conditions for the public budget” the USR councilor wrote on Facebook.
The 22 municipality companies, founded in 2017 at the behest of Bucharest Mayor Gabriela Firea, are currently facing uncertainty about their future, as the Bucharest Court of Appeal annulled in late 2018 the General Council decision which established them due to erroneous procedure. However, the mayor announced that the companies will continue to function as the City Hall is seeking specialized appeal means against the decision.
