The leu opened at RON4.2470/RON4.2520 against the euro, down from RON4.2230/RON4.2300 to the euro at the end of Friday’s trading session.
Then, the leu continued to depreciate against the euro at touched a historical low at RON4.2620 /RON4.2650 versus the euro, exceeding Friday’s close value by almost RON0.4.
Then, at GMT 0800, the leu was trading at RON4.2450/RON4.2500 against the euro.
“The leu was the only currency in the region registering significant variations against the euro due to the euro demand, but the traded volumes are low. I don’t think the leu will exceed 4.3 units today,” a dealer stated.
The central bank computed Friday an indicative of RON4.2127 to the euro, the leu’s all-time low since euro introduction.
On the monetary market, interest rates were at 12%-13% a year on Monday morning.
