The teacher arrived in Sibiu in a delegation including ten other people, for an exchange program in the Sibiu Energy Industrial School Group. According to high school officials, the teacher showed signs of illness Tuesday and was initially consulted by the school physician.
On suspicion of infection with the AH1N1 virus, the teacher was admitted to the Sibiu Emergency Hospital, Infectious Diseases Department, where samples were collected.
According to Sibiu Public Health Department officials, analysis results came back Friday afternoon and confirmed that the teacher was suffering from the AH1N1 flu. He was isolated in a guest home, and his colleagues in the delegation were separated in their hotel, despite not showing signs of illness.
The Sibiu Public Health Department is now monitoring the school’s pupils and staff and identifying the people who have come into contact with the English teacher.
