Orange Romania To Launch iPhone 3G Aug 22

France’s mobile telephony operator Orange on Wednesday said the new iPhone 3G handset will be available in Romania starting with August 22.

Romanian customers will be able to buy the new iPhone in six Orange stores in the country which will be simultaneously opened at 00.00 hrs on August 22, Orange Romania said in a statement.

Staring with August 7, Orange customers can order the new handsets online as well, at www.orange.ro, the mobile telecom operator said.

Mid May, Orange said it has signed a deal with U.S. Apple Inc. to sell its iPhone in several European countries, including Romania.

Apart from Romania, Orange said will sell the iPhone in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland and its African markets later this year.

Apple launched the iPhone in the U.S. in June last year. The handset combines the features of a mobile phone, web browser and audio and video players.

The launch price ranged between $500 and $600 per handset, according to memory capacity.

Orange Romania is the top operator on the local mobile telephony market, with 10.01 million customers reported end June.

The company reported a 9% hike in its first half revenues to EUR628 million.
