The United States and Canada each injected EUR100 million in Romania, while another EUR400 million came from Switzerland, according to Eurostat.
Investors in Russia, Japan, China Hong Kong, India and Brazil invested sums lower than EUR50 million in Romania in 2007.
In 2006, foreign direct investments in Romania stood at EUR9.1 billion, according to Eurostat’s revised data.
On the other hand, Romanian investors discarded last year projects worth a total EUR100 million in the EU area, and allotted up to EUR50 million in each of the nine non-EU countries analyzed by Eurostat (United States, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Brazil and Russia).
According to data of the Romanian central bank, Romania attracted FDI worth EUR7.06 billion in 2007.
According to Eurostat, in the EU, the largest FDI was poured into Great Britain, EUR135.7 billion, followed by France with EUR119.5 billion and Luxemburg with EUR86.8 billion.
