The country’s employment agency ANOFM said the total number of jobless people reached 762,375 in February.

In February 2009, the unemployment rate was at 5.3%, or 477,860 people.

Romanian jobless rate is expected to rise further in 2010, particularly in light of the government’s planned cuts in the public sector to help lowering the budget deficit to 5.9% of the gross domestic product, versus 7.2% of GDP a year before.
