Romanian Presidential Election Final Results: Basescu – 50.33%, Geoana – 49.66%

Romania’s incumbent president Traian Basescu obtained 50.33% of the votes in the second round of elections and social democrat contender Mircea Geoana got 49.66%, according to final results released Monday by the Central Electoral Bureau after counts in all polling stations.

Voter turnout was of 58.02%.

The Central Electoral Bureau will submit the final results to the Constitutional Court for validation.

Romania’s leftist Social Democratic Party, whose presidential candidate Mircea Geoana was leading in exit-polls after Sunday’s election, said will contest the election outcome at the Constitutional Court, claiming the election was rigged.
