Oxygen Tube Blast Kills One, Injures Another In South Romania

One person died and one was injured Thursday in a powerful blast at the oxygen plant of state-owned electrical equipment maker Electroputere Craiova, company general manager Cornel Mondea said.

An oxygen tube exploded around 10.30 a.m. and started a fire. One worker died and another, Marian Popescu, 58, was taken in very serious condition to the county hospital.

Adriana Trica, spokeswoman for the county hospital, told reporters the man has burns on 80% of his body.

Local labor authorities, police and prosecutors are on site trying to determine the cause of the blast.
