Mihalcioiu said the identity of the respective Romanian sailor is yet unknown. He added the M/V RIM cargo vessel is a Romanian vessel initially called Ramnicu Valcea, which is the name of a town in southern Romania.

The 4,800-ton cargo ship is currently owned by White Sea Shipping, based in Tripoli, Libya. The ship, seized by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden Wednesday, was not registered with the Horn of Africa Maritime Security Centre.

This is the third vessel hijacking by Somali pirates since the beginning of the year.
