Parole Request Of Imprisoned Former Constanta County Chief Rejected

Former Constanta County Council Chairman Nicusor Constantinescu saw his request for a release on parole from prison rejected on Wednesday by Medgidia Court judges, in a first decision.

The former local leader is currently serving a five year prison sentence at the Poarta Alba Penitentiary for corruption offences while in office.

The decision is not final and can be appealed. Should Constantinescu appeal the decision and lose again, he will not be eligible to make another request for a period of five months after the final decision.

Nicusor Constantinescu was sentenced to prison in June 2016 for abuse of office, as judges deemed that he deliberately chose not to ensure financing for the Constanta Regional Military Centre.

The former county council chairman has received two other prison sentences for corruption charges since, one for 15 years and the other for eight, both of which were first decision and had ongoing appeals.
