Since October 21, 2008, the portability service allows users to keep their telephone numbers, fixed or mobile, even if they change service operators.

"As anticipated, most switches occurred on the mobile telephony segment. (…) So far, the maximum allowed number of transfers allowed for one operator in one day was 300. Starting today (Tuesday) we will gradually increase this limit, as much as necessary, depending on the number of requests registered," said the president of the National Authority for Communications, Liviu Nistoran, in a press release.

According to data from the authority, in the first two months since the introduction of the transfer possibility, there have been nearly 25,000 switch requests registered, over 21,000 for mobile numbers and over 3,000 for fixed numbers.

When it comes to fixed telephony, 1,694 numbers have been transferred so far, to the operators Atlas Telecom – 1, Dial Telecom – 26, Euroweb – 5, GTS – 7, RCS&RDS – 403, Romtelecom – 210, Telemobil – 62, UPC – 425, Vodafone – 555.

"For mobile telephony, some 14,000 transfers have been registered, namely Cosmote – 5,960, Orange – 4,167, RCS&RDS – 38, Telemobil – 41, Vodafone – 3,778," the press release reads.
