Over 100 Romanian Localities Affected By Rainfall, Flooding In Past 24 Hours

Over 100 Romanian localities in 14 counties were affected by heavy rainfall and 7,762 people have been evacuated due to flooding over the past 24 hours, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) said Friday.

Heavy rainfall and river floods affected 104 localities in the counties of Alba, Bacau, Botosani, Braila, Caras-Severin, Galati, Giurgiu, Harghita, Ialomita, Iasi, Neamt, Suceava, Tulcea, Vaslui, and 7,762 people had to be evacuated.

Flooding damaged 3,903 warehouses and yards, 1,003 homes and basements, 16 roads, 529 bridges and 6,616 water wells. About 12,359 hectares of farmland and 3,622 hectares of pasture were waterlogged.

Romanian meteorologists extended the code yellow alert for rain until Friday at 11 p.m. for 12 counties in the northern, northeastern and the central part of the country, and river floods remain a threat.
