Oprescu said in his speech that „20 years of lying transition, that came after 45 years of communism, end here, today”. He said Romanian society is divided and the country is in a poor state because its politicians have failed.
Oprescu criticized political parties saying they live in their own world and defend no one’s interestd but their own.
„Parties don’t belong in the presidency, or the justice sector, or in business, or healthcare, or education. That’s where professionals belong,” Oprescu said, adding he has decided to run for president.
A long-time member of the Social Democratic Party, Oprescu left the party last year to run independently for general mayor of capital Bucharest.
