According to a code yellow warning published Friday by the National Hydrology and Water Management Institute (INHGA), the rains forecast might lead to floods on mountain ridges and the forming of torrents and streams, which might in turn cause local floods, as well as higher water levels on certain rivers in the country.
The rivers that might see higher water levels include Viseu, Iza, Tur, Tisa, Caras, Nera, Cerna, Drincea, Strei, the upper and middle Jiu, the upper and middle Olt, the upper and middle Arges, Ialomita, Buzau, Ramnicu Sarat, Putna, Trotus, Bistrita, Moldova, Suceava, Barlad, Jijia, Baseu, the upper Siret, the upper Prut and the rivers in Dobrogea.
The counties concerned by the warning are Maramures, Satu Mare, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Hunedoara, Gorj, Valcea, Arges, Dambovita, Sibiu, Brasov, Prahova, Buzau, Covasna, Vrancea, Bacau, Hunedoara, Neamt, Suceava, Botosani, Iasi, Vaslui, Galati, Tulcea and Constanta.
"As a result of heavy rain forecast starting with October 4, 2008, 22.00 local time and ending on October 7, 2008, 12.00 local time, code yellow is instated," the warning said.
