The Party of the European Socialists asks Basescu to act in the best interest of the country and of Europe by proposing for an EC portfolio a top social democrat, with a good reputation in Europe, to be accepted without reserve by the European Parliament, the Party of the European Socialists said in a press release Saturday.
Leader of the party Poul Nyrup Rasmussen Saturday talked about Romania's political situation after the Social Democratic Party left the government coalition, said the press release.
The Party of the European Socialists said the European Commission needs the support of the European socialists and democrats to have their projects approved by the European Parliament, adding Romania must propose a social democrat for an EC portfolio.
Romanian MEP social democrat Victor Bostinaru told MEDIAFAX Friday that European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso officially asked Romanian President Traian Basescu to propose another three people for an EC portfolio.
