Urban said he sees no reason why journalists should not submit a statement of interests as long as they influence the public opinion.
The senator also said that, if the Senate votes in favor of his proposition, the amendment will provide an extra guarantee for consumers that opinions delivered by journalists are not biased.
According to the amendment, the statement of interests will be submitted with human resources department, and sanctions are included in the law.
Urban said the amendment targets journalists only, as „not anyone with a blog is a journalist.”
The Senate’s committee for legal matters is currently debating amendments brought to the law regulating the National Integrity Agency, which was set up at the EU’s request and screens politicians’ wealth to crack down top-level corruption and ensure transparency.
