Two weeks ago, Costin resigned from the Board of the National Health Insurance House, according to House president Lucian Duta.
Thousands of Romanian unionists gathered Tuesday morning outside Parliament headquarters in capital Bucharest in a show of support for the opposition’s no-confidence motion, which lawmakers put to the vote the same day. At about 3.30 p.m., Costin told the some 300 remaining protesters to go home and assured them street protests will follow in the upcoming days if the Parliament rejects the no-confidence motion against the austerity plan proposed by the Government.
The opposition’s motion fell eight votes short of receiving the necessary Parliament support and was rejected.
Costin had been the leader of the National Union Bloc since 1990.
