Basescu added the US supported Romania in 2005, in “very difficult situations".
"I can assure you I am one of the United States’ best friends, as long as they treat us as partners. And I can’t complain that starting 2005 they haven’t. They’ve backed us in very difficult situations," Basescu said.
The president added Romania’s partnership with the US is very important and the States, knowing Romania’s position regarding Kosovo, have made no pressure on the country to acknowledge the independence of the Serbian province.
Asked whether any countries pressured Romania to acknowledge Kosovo, Basescu said "No, no one".
