Romania To Raise Public Sector Wages By 9.58% In 2008

Romania’s Government will raise public sector wages by an average 9.58% in 2008, with most funds going to top priority fields, such as education and healthcare.

The government decided Wednesday that the country’s 1.39 million public sector employees would get raises in April and October.

Following the decision, education and healthcare workers will get the highest wage increases of 12.37% and 11.3%, respectively.

Also Wednesday, the Romanian Labor Minister Paul Pacuraru said the wage increase are adjusted to the country’s “economic reality” and in line with the government’s prudent macroeconomic policies.
