The list of topics to be covered in the meeting also includes measures targeting a balanced increase in low wages and pensions, which could be operated starting this spring.

Social democrat leader Mircea Geoana said Friday his party proposes an increase in low wages and pensions in the education sector, starting March 1.

In turn, democrat liberal Mircea Toader said the principle based on which low wages must increase a lot more than high wages must be applied to all public sectors, not only to education or healthcare.

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc on Saturday said the government would mainly focus in the upcoming period on the country’s economic growth and social protection measures targeting needy people who live on low wages and pensions and have a hard time coping with the current economic situation.
