According to the press release, tourists paid about EUR6 million for tourism services during their short holiday, of which EUR5 million only in Romania.
Of the total tourists who spent May 1 in Romania, 35,000 went to the seaside, 43% more than estimated.
According to the federation, the number of accommodation requests exceeded the 20,000 accommodation offers at the seaside and several hotels had to urgently open their gates for tourists.
The occupancy rate reached 90% in Prahova Valley mountain resorts and about 80% in other mountain resorts.
About 18,500 chose to experience rural life and accommodation capacity in rural zones reached 100%.
Over 2,000 tourists spent May 1 in the Danube Delta and 13,000 other people chose bathing resorts.
Of the total number of Romanians who spent May 1 abroad, 9,000 Romanians chose Bulgaria, followed by Greece (800), Turkey (300), Austria (150), the UK (150) and Hungary (100).
