People Evacuated, Children’s Camp Isolated Following Major Flood In N-E Romania

Forty-five people were evacuated from their homes Wednesday night and 70 children who were camping in the area were isolated because of the floods affecting 18 localities in Suceava county, northeastern Romania.

Head of the local council Gheorghe Flutur told MEDIAFAX Thursday that 87 homes and 195 households were flooded.

He added that 45 people were evacuated from their homes and other 180 were rescued by the firefighters. Currently, 23 workers are isolated on the river Moldova.

In Campulung Moldovenesc, Suceava county, the local inspectorate for emergencies is dealing with the severest situation, as 20 homes were flooded, and seven cars were taken away during the turmoil, while ten kilometers further, 70 children remained isolated because the road was destroyed.

In Prisaca Dornei, a creek flooded both national road 17 and the railway on the segment Gura Humorului – Campulung Moldovenesc.

The Moldova river, 25 households and fountains in the area are in danger of being polluted by an oil storage pit.
