EXCLUSIVE: Romania Sacks National Football Team Coach Victor Piturca

Romania’s national football team coach Victor Piturca was sacked Thursday following the meeting of the executive committee of the country’s Football Federation, Professional Football League president Dumitru Dragomir told MEDIAFAX.

"Piturca was dismissed, we haven’t decided who will take his place. We’ll settle that later,” Dragomir said.

Football Federation general manager Ionut Lupescu said Piturca would be offered the choice to end his contract amiably and receive EUR250,000.

“Piturca was still under contract until the end of the year and the objective was for the national team to qualify in the 2010 World Cup. Unfortunately, recent results leave Romania no chance to qualify. Victor Piturca will be offered the option to terminate his contract with the Romanian Football Federation amiably, in exchange for EUR250,000, which we consider is a reasonable offer for the work he has done,” Lupescu told a news conference Thursday.
