Romanian Social Democrats To Oppose New Car Tax In Parliament

Romania’s leftist opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, will vote against the government emergency ordinance instating the new pollution tax for cars, party president Mircea Geoana said Monday.

Geoana said the government’s decision regarding the new tax is wrong and unjustifiably burdens citizens.
 
He added social democrats will vote against the government emergency ordinance setting the new sums for the tax, saying it has “no economic ground, it’s antisocial and anti-environmental.”
 
The car tax is to double and even triple for new Euro 4 cars, while it is to be some ten times lower for old Euro 1 cars, according to the changes that are to take effect as of July 1.
