Ploiesti Court of Appeal Revokes Protective Custody Warrant for Fugitive Businessman Sebastian Ghita

The decision is final and cannot be appealed.
The businessman, who received political asylum in Serbia, said that he requested the revocation of the protective custody warrant because his lawyers filed new evidence in the case. He also accused Ploiesti anticorruption prosecutors of forging evidence to obtain the warrant.
Ghita added that he will not return to Romania despite the court’s decision.
“I don’t think that this judicial saga has ended. (...) These people will continue to harm me and invent cases, will threaten my family, do not think that it is over. I just proved together with my lawyers that forged evidence was used in the case and determined some brave judges to give a correct decision,” the former MP said.
Sebastian Ghita has several corruption cases ongoing and was under judiciary control in late 2017, when he fled Romania and disappeared for several months before being detained in Serbia. However, Serbian authorities granted his political asylum request.
