Dacia will start making 1,340 cars per day from the current 1,200 as of June 15

"Following programs to relaunch auto markets, adopted in several European countries including Romania, and due to Dacia’s successful exports, the car plant will increase its output from 1,200 vehicles/day to 1,340 vehicles/day, starting June 15, 2009," Dacia said in a press release Friday.

The carmaker said the 500 people it plans to hire will be mainly recruited from among former employees whose temporary contracts hadn’t been extended. Also, the carmaker said it would extend the contracts of another 400 temporary employees.

Dacia’s output reached 1,200 vehicles per day in the second part of February, from the previous 1,085 vehicles per day in the first half of February. The carmaker halted production for about a month at the end of 2008 citing declining demand and didn’t extend contracts for 920 of its 2,800 temporary employees.
