The government also decided to recall general consuls Petre Litiu from Cosenza (Italy), Iuliu Aron Constantin from Szeged (Hungary), Alexandru Grumaz from Shanghai (China) and Ion Bistreanu from Saint Petersburg (Russia).

The five diplomats will end their missions within maximum 90 days.

Ministry sources told MEDIAFAX last week that the government decided to recall consul Buje.

In February, Buje said in a statement for Romanian daily Cotidianul, that in 1998-2000, current Italian interior minister Roberto Maroni, at that time a lawmaker, called the consular office in Milan, where she was consul at that time, to intervene in favor of three Romanians he employed, including a housemaid. Buje added Maroni knew the three Romanians were working illegally in Italy.
