"The number of jobless people rose in November by around 12,000 persons. Further layoffs are estimated at around 43,000 persons by April 2009, half of them in the construction and agriculture sectors," Campeanu said in a press conference.
Romania’s unemployment rate rose to 4.1% in November, 0.1 percentage point higher from 4% in October, the Romanian employment agency, or ANOFM, said Tuesday.
The employment agency said the country registered 376,971 jobless people in November, of which 180,001 are women.
The unemployment rate in November was lower than the rate of 4.2% reported in November last year.
On a regional basis, the southwestern county of Mehedinti reported the highest unemployment rate of 8.9%, while Ilfov in southern Romania and Timis in western Romania registered the lowest unemployment rate at 1.4%.
The unemployment rate in capital city Bucharest stood at 1.8%, with a total 18,238 people unemployed.
