Prime Minister Wants Pact Between Parties for Snap Elections
In an interview for Digi24, the chief of cabinet said that the pact would be a condition for the government to commit to holding snap elections.
“In order to launch the procedure you need a minimum guarantee that there is a chance, so that you don’t end up seeing at the second vote for investiture of the government that several parties vote in favor and the procedure doesn’t lead to snap elections. (…) There is need for a consultation, to obtain an agreement, even sign a pact for snap elections, as a condition for launching the procedure,” he said.
Orban also added that snap parliamentary elections should be held in late spring, together with the local elections.
Snap elections can be triggered if the Romanian Parliament does provide a majority for the investiture of a new government on two consecutive occasions. Romanian parliamentary elections are currently scheduled towards the end of 2020.
