"I gives me pleasure to return to Iasi, but I do not like the fact that you make a Moldavian celebration political," Basescu said as soon as he was booed and heckled by the supporters of his political rivals.
Basescu underlined the "great achievement of Romanian politicians at the time when the princedoms were united, who knew how to accomplish the union, one of the achievements being the High Court of Justice, which was meant to try the deeds of dignitaries and ministers of the time."
In his speech, Traian Basescu insisted on the need for all citizens to be equal in the eyes of the law. He said that Romania, just like in the time of the Princedom Union, needs reform, but on a different level.
He added that the Romanian people deserve more, and politicians have the obligation to offer Romanians what they deserve.
"I wish you a good life from the bottom of my heart!" concluded Basescu, booed and heckled by the participants.
Basescu arrived Thursday, around 11.00, in Iasi, on the anniversary of 149 years from the Union of the Romanian Princedoms, and reviewed the Honor Guard, which saluted him.
Before holding their speeches, Basescu and the Prime Minister exchanged a few words. However, after holding the speeches, the two gave each other the cold shoulder.
