Asked whether he will be advantaged if Călin Georgescu does not enter the electoral race, Victor Ponta said on Digi24 on Tuesday that ”tomorrow morning (Wednesday morning – ed.) I will submit my candidacy, as I announced more than a week ago. I am not running against anyone”.

”I have taken this decision and I will run. For the rest, my opinion remains the same, namely that it is democratic and fair for all those who wish to participate to do so”. he added.

Victor Ponta also said that there have been decisions of the Constitutional Court that he did not like, ”such as when they invalidated the referendum to dismiss Mr. Basescu”, but added that he respects them „because I believe that this is the only way we can function as a society”.

”I didn’t just work for the state (…) and I wasn’t unemployed for 10 years. I am the prime minister who has taken the most liberal measures and who has managed to create a tax system for the middle class, for those working in the private sector, that has helped them”, he replied, asked if he has supporters among the liberals.

As for the possibility of being supported by Georgescu’s electorate, Ponta recalled that he intends to run as an independent candidate: ”If they want to do so, of course they are welcome, but I will run as an independent candidate, because I want to be the president of the citizens”.

Asked if he still sees Marcel Ciolacu as head of government after the presidential elections, Ponta said, ”I think we need another government”. Moreover, he avoided making a choice for prime minister between Ilie Bolojan, Călin Georgescu and Marcel Ciolacu, saying that this ”is not a pre-selection”.
