Romania 2010 Gas Consumption Up 4.8% To 146.7M MWh

Romanian natural gas consumption rose 4.8% to 146.7 million MWh in 2010, from around 140 million MWh a year earlier, the country’s energy regulator ANRE said in a report Monday.

Gas imports covered 17.16% of Romania’s consumption last year, up from around 15% in 2009.

Petrom Gas, a unit of Romania’s leading oil company OMV Petrom (SNP.RO), was the top gas supplier on the local free market, with a 23.3% share in 2010, followed by state-run company Romgaz Medias (22.7%) and Interagro group (20.6%).

On the regulated market, GDF Suez Romania and E.ON Gaz Romania supplied over 91% of the natural gas delivered to households and medium-sized companies.

Romgaz Medias and OMV Petrom were the two largest natural gas producers in 2010, covering together over 97% of the local output.

Romgaz reported a total production of 5.77 billion cubic meters of natural gas, while OMV Petrom produced 5.16 billion cubic meters.
