Romanian Defense Minister Voices Out Core Issues For Military

The minister also said Sunday, within the MIL FEST event, that the military needs a lot more money, stressing, however, we are all engaged in a fierce competition for funds needed for roads, infrastructure, healthcare and education.

Moreover, Melescanu pointed out that the money invested in the military is worthwhile, adding the army creates jobs and the armament purchased via offset system directly backs the country’s economy.
 
 
Asked about the measures taken by the Defense Ministry to increase the salaries of the military staff, Melescanu said several draft laws were submitted to Parliament targeting to increase both the minimum sum of RON1,100 and the multiplication coefficients applied to basic salaries.
 
 
Melescanu also said his ministry not only races for funds, but also against other institutions active in the area of public order and national security, adding the military staff would always choose to work wherever salaries are higher.
 
 
The minister said the MIL FEST event targets to inform  on the army’s activities and funds, stressing it is also an opportunity for propaganda for all young people wiling to pursue a military career.
