Tariceanu is to hold a series of talks with the Italian authorities in an effort to defuse tensions over Italian deportations.
Political relations between Romania and Italy became very tense over the past days, following the murder of a woman in Rome, allegedly by a Romanian illegal immigrant, and an apparent reprisal of the Italians which resulted in the injury of several Romanian citizens.
Following the attack, Italy started deporting Romanians under a new decree aimed at tackling crime.
In an interview for Italy’s news agency ANSA, Tariceanu said the two countries should find a common solution to limit the crimes conducted bi Romanians in Italy, on one hand, and, on the other hand, to protect the Romanians in Italy from xenophobic acts.
