In a statement, the administration announced that Pope Francis will be received at the Henri Coanda International Airport on May 31, 11.30 local time, with a welcoming ceremony set to take place at the Cotroceni Palace around 12.00.

The administration also published a schedule for Pope Francis' visit to Romania, which will span multiple cities and three days.

According to the schedule, the Supreme Pontiff will also meet with Romanian Orthodox Church leader Patriarch Daniel on May 31 and will hold a prayer at the People’s Salvation Cathedral in Bucharest.

On June 1, Pope Francis will visit the Marian Sanctuary in Sumuleu-Ciuc and the Saint Mary Queen Cathedral Iasi, while on the following day he will hold a mass on the Liberty Plain in Blaj and will depart the country following a ceremony in Sibiu.

This will be the second papal visit to Romania, following the historic visit of Pope John Paul II in 1999, which signified the first time a leader of the Catholic Church visited an Orthodox Christian country since the Great Schism of 1054.
