The president said that the Afghanistan issue will be discussed on April 2, during the informal meeting to take place in Bucharest between NATO heads of state and government.
Asked whether Romania will send more troops to Afghanistan Basescu replied: “Romania will not be an unconditional troop supplier in Afghanistan.”
The head of the state said that after the Riga Summit, the country observed its engagements increasing the number of troops in Afghanistan to 780 soldiers.
The president said Romania can send another 120 soldiers in Afghanistan but only if the other countries fulfill their engagements as well.
“I ask that our allies take as much part in this mission as Romania does,” the president concluded.
