According to a press release of the President’s Office, the invitation to attend consultations on the uninominal voting system to the leaders of the Democratic Party (PD), Social Democratic Party (PSD), Liberal Party (PNL), Liberal Democratic Party (PLD), the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), Greater Romania Party (PRM), Conservative Party (PC) and the parliament group representing ethnic minorities.

Basescu said last week on television that if seven million vote and six million vote in favor of his proposed uninominal system, parliament parties would be called for consultations.

On Sunday, exit polls showed less than 27% of voters cast their vote in the referendum, and 89.2% voted in favor of the majority uninominal voting system in two rounds of elections.

Sunday evening, Basescu said that four million voters of the nearly five million that voted, were in favor of his proposed system. He added that in this case, the referendum law should be carefully reanalyzed, as the poll on Sunday shows the law is not fair.
