Romanian Govt Sees 8.5-9.1% Econ Growth In ’08 Vs 6% In ‘07

The Romanian Government said Wednesday this year’s economy is expected to grow by 8.5-9 percentage points, compared with a gross domestic product growth of 6% the year before.

Economy and Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian said earlier in the week he sees economic growth at 8% at the end of the year. 

Romania’s economy grew 8.8% in the first half of the year, boosted by a robust 9.3% increase in gross domestic product in the second quarter, following a good agricultural year, according to analysts.

On Monday, Romanian central bank Governor Mugur Isarescu said there is limited risk of a "hard landing" for the economy, and that he expects economic growth of around 6% in the coming years
