According to prosecutors, Marinescu is also charged with failing to implement work protection measures. The former manager should have implemented a prevention and protection service within the hospital, which could have identified any malfunction of the electric system.
A report on the fire showed the cause was an overheated plug which connected the air-conditioning system to the power supply.
The August 16 fire in the Giulesti maternity ward left three newborn babies dead and eight others severely injured. Three more babies died in the following period. All five surviving babies have been released from hospital.
After the accident, prosecutors started criminal investigations and charged nurse Florentina Cirstea with manslaughter. She was arrested on August 24. Vasile Dima, the head of the maternity’s technical department, and neonatologist Adrian Ioan Toma are also under criminal investigation.
