Romanian President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu met Saturday afternoon and discussed for about half an hour, official sources told MEDIAFAX.
President, PM Talked About Justice Minister Issue
The two discussed the case of senator Norica Nicolai, proposed by the premier for justice minister, and firmly rejected by the president.
The meeting was confirmed by the spokespersons of the government and the president’s office.
Nicolai, a former prosecutor, on Friday evening said she will not back out of the race for the justice ministry and accused president Basescu of undignified conduct for a man. She added his behavior as head of state is abusive.
The president had said earlier he would never sign the decree appointing as Nicolai justice minister. Basescu added he would be forced to sign the document only if the parliament accepts the proposal.
Also Friday, after Tariceanu refused the president’s invitation to talks twice, the presidency issued a statement saying Nicolai is not legally fit for the position of justice minister.
Basescu said he came to this conclusion after he analyzed Nicolai’s professional record from the general prosecutors’ office.
