Nokia’s Romanian Plant Unaffected By World Crisis, Jobs Are Safe – President
Basescu said he visited the Nokia plant in Jucu, Cluj county, northwestern Romania, to discuss the company’s outlook with the management. He added jobs there are safe and the unit will continue development in 2009.
On Wednesday, employees of Nokia’s Romanian plant received, after negotiations, a gross salary increase of 8.1% starting with December 1, and an additional 6.5% starting with April 1, 2009, union leader Cristian Copil said.
The Nokia plant in Jucu currently employs some 1,800 people, and the average gross salary is 833 lei (EUR1=RON3.7938).
The head of state will also visit Friday the steel mill Russian Mechel owns in Campia Turzii, in northwestern Romania.
